ChatGPT Business for Small Teams (2026): Price per Seat, Premium Seats and Setup
ChatGPTQuick answer: ChatGPT Business is the legit way for a small team to share ChatGPT. It’s priced per user per month (cheaper on annual billing), needs at least 2 users, and gives each person their own seat. Premium seats sit above Standard, with 5x the usage and no 5-hour limit. Prices are on the official ChatGPT pricing page.
How do Standard and Premium seats differ?
| Seat | Best for | Key differences | Official pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Most staff | Business baseline usage; lower per-seat price on annual billing | chatgpt.com/pricing |
| Premium | Heavy Codex or agent users | 5x Standard usage, no 5-hour limit; costs several times a Standard seat | Premium seats |

Who is ChatGPT Business for?
Small and mid-sized teams. A workspace needs at least 2 paid seats (Standard, Premium, or one of each) and can have up to 200 paid Standard and Premium seats combined; above 200 seats, OpenAI suggests ChatGPT Enterprise. Workspaces created before August 24, 2026 keep their previous seat limit (Managing members, Sign up for ChatGPT Business). If you remember “ChatGPT Team”, it is the same product: OpenAI renamed it Business on August 29, 2025.
What do Premium seats add?
OpenAI pitched the new seat as “a game changer for small businesses and startups” (@OpenAI). Its Codex lead described it as working much like Pro 100, but designed for teams and small companies, with all ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex features, connectors for Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, and SAML SSO and MFA (@thsottiaux). In short, give Premium seats only to the people who live in Codex or agents. Everyone else stays on Standard.
Business vs several Plus accounts: which is better value?
| Option | Best for | Key differences | Official pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| One Plus per person | Freelancers working alone | Separate personal accounts; no admin or shared workspace | chatgpt.com/pricing |
| Business, monthly | Teams that change size often | Admin console, shared workspace, SSO; compare the per-seat price with Plus on the pricing page | chatgpt.com/pricing |
| Business, annual | Stable teams | Same features at a lower per-seat price than Business monthly | chatgpt.com/pricing |
On data use, OpenAI’s Business overview says: “OpenAI won’t train on your workspace’s data.” Business follows OpenAI’s Business Terms and the policies on its Enterprise Privacy page (Business overview).
Why not just share one Plus login?
OpenAI’s Terms of Use say you may not share account credentials, and Plus is designed for individuals. Shared logins also leak each person’s chats and memory to everyone else. We cover this in detail in can you share ChatGPT Plus?
How do you set up ChatGPT Business?
- On the pricing page, choose Business and pick monthly or annual billing.
- Add at least 2 seats at checkout (Standard, Premium or one of each). The account that signs up becomes the workspace owner (Sign up for ChatGPT Business).
- Invite teammates from Workspace settings > Members > Invite member: type email addresses or import a CSV. Owners can pick each person’s role and seat type; admins and members can only invite Members on the workspace’s default seat type (Managing members).
- Optional SSO: a workspace owner opens Workspace settings > Identity & access > Identity & provisioning, verifies an email domain, then selects Set up SSO (SAML or OIDC). SSO and domain verification are included with Business; SCIM is not (SSO for ChatGPT Business).
- Assign Premium seats to heavy users only.
