ChatGPT Pro Tiers Explained: Pro 100 vs Pro 200 vs Pro 500 (October 2026)

Updated · By topai.one editorial team

Quick answer: ChatGPT Pro is now three monthly plans: Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500, each with more usage than the one below. Only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast. Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again, but with a lower allowance. Existing Pro 200 users who qualify keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026. Prices are on the official ChatGPT pricing page.

What are the three ChatGPT Pro tiers?

From OpenAI’s Pro tiers article:

Tier Best for Key differences Official pricing
Pro 100 People who outgrow Plus Pro baseline; no Ultrafast chatgpt.com/pricing
Pro 200 Very heavy Codex or agent use More usage than Pro 100; no Ultrafast chatgpt.com/pricing
Pro 500 Maximum allowance and speed Highest usage; the only tier with Ultrafast chatgpt.com/pricing

All three include Pro models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. Billing is monthly only; annual or multi-month prepayment is not offered. OpenAI keeps adding Pro features; on October 16 it said GPT-6 Astra Pro can now run “multiple agents” on different parts of a task in parallel (@OpenAI).

What changed for Pro 200 in September 2026?

Pro 200 is open to new subscribers again, with a smaller allowance at the same monthly price (Pro tiers article). OpenAI’s Codex lead explained that the new allowance works out to about half the API-spend equivalent of the old Pro 200 plan (@thsottiaux). The Help Center confirms that new subscriptions not eligible for grandfathering “include a lower usage allowance than previously offered with Pro 200.”

Who keeps the old Pro 200 allowance, and until when?

You qualify if you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29, 2026. Eligible users keep the previous allowance through October 29, 2026, while the subscription stays active. After that it switches to the lower allowance at the same monthly price. Keeping the old allowance does not add Ultrafast or turn Pro 200 into Pro 500.

OpenAI says only users affected by this change receive an email with additional details (Pro tiers article). We found no official page describing any compensation credits, so check that email rather than social media.

How fast do Fast and Ultrafast use up your allowance?

Mode Included allowance used Purchased credits used
Standard 1x 1x
Fast 2.5x Not stated for Pro (the Business/Enterprise rate card lists 2x)
Ultrafast (GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol; Pro 500 only) 8x 6x

Sources: OpenAI’s Pro tiers article gives the allowance rates for Fast and Ultrafast and the 6x credit rate for Ultrafast. OpenAI hasn’t stated a Fast credit rate for Pro: the ChatGPT rate card lists 2x for Fast, but that rate card covers Business and Enterprise/Edu plans, and the credits article for personal plans doesn’t give a Fast rate. Check Settings → Usage for what Fast actually draws on your account.

OpenAI pitches Ultrafast as “up to 8x faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex” (@OpenAI). In practice, an hour of Ultrafast uses about as much allowance as eight hours of Standard, so save it for moments when waiting costs you more than the allowance.

Does “20x” still mean anything?

Not in the current plan names. Before the change, the old Pro 200 plan was marketed as 20x Plus. OpenAI’s Codex lead clarified that in Codex the 20X “appl[ies] specifically to weekly usage limits,” and that Pro plans had no 5-hour limits (@thsottiaux). The current Help Center article only says Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100, and Pro 500 the most. It does not publish per-tier multipliers and points to the pricing page for the usage included in each plan; as of October 18, 2026 that page lists “Your choice of 3 usage tiers” without multipliers. Treat any “Nx” numbers on social media as unofficial.

Which Pro tier should you pick?

  • Start with Pro 100 if you keep hitting Plus limits. Upgrading later is done in Settings → My Plan.
  • Pro 200 only if Pro 100 runs out most weeks.
  • Pro 500 only if you need Ultrafast or the absolute maximum allowance. Credits on Pro 100 or 200 do not unlock Ultrafast.
  • Teams: Business Premium seats are the team equivalent; see ChatGPT Business for small teams.

Can you buy more usage, or reset limits?

You can buy credits for eligible features (Codex, ChatGPT Work and the Office add-ins), which are used after your included allowance. Support cannot reset limits. Pro accounts follow the Terms of Use, and OpenAI says “Sharing account credentials, reselling access and automatically extracting data are prohibited.” See can you share ChatGPT Plus? and the full plans comparison, or go back to the ChatGPT hub.

FAQ

How much is ChatGPT Pro?

There are three monthly tiers, Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500, each with more included usage than the one below. Pro has no annual billing. Current prices are on chatgpt.com/pricing.

What is the difference between Pro 200 and Pro 500?

Pro 500 has the highest included usage and is the only Pro tier with Ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Pro 200 has more usage than Pro 100 but no Ultrafast, and buying credits on it does not unlock Ultrafast.

Do existing Pro 200 subscribers keep their old limits?

Only until October 29, 2026, and only if their Pro 200 subscription was active at any point from September 22, 2026 through 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 29, 2026. After that the subscription moves to the lower allowance at the same price.

Why does Ultrafast drain my Pro allowance so quickly?

OpenAI says Ultrafast uses your included allowance at 8 times the Standard rate, and purchased credits at 6 times the Standard credit rate. Fast mode uses the allowance at 2.5 times the rate.

Can I share a Pro account?

No. OpenAI's Help Center says sharing account credentials, reselling access and automatically extracting data are prohibited, and it may restrict access for misuse.
